Community Events and Cultural Activities in Olympia

"Shoes for Sidra" Children's Shoes Installation at Heritage Park

On Sunday, August 17, the Rachel Corrie Foundation and local supporters will host an impactful event at Heritage Park titled “Shoes for Sidra.” This installation will feature hundreds of children’s shoes to symbolize the over 18,000 Palestinian children who have lost their lives in Gaza since October 2023. The event serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing crisis and the tragic toll on young lives. Each shoe represents a child who has been affected by the conflict, with an average of 28 children losing their lives every day. The name of the event honors Sidra Hassouna, a 7-year-old girl who was killed in an Israeli airstrike that left her body hanging from a destroyed home. The installation aims to raise awareness about the violence against children and the growing number of deaths due to starvation and conflict.
