Syracuse, N.Y. — The 2025 All-Central New York large school boys lacrosse team features 15 players chosen by reporters.
West Genesee senior attack Charlie Lockwood was named the boys lacrosse large school player of the year at ’s 2025 All-Central New York High School Sports Awards at Liverpool High School.
The other finalists for large school player of the year were Baldwinsville senior attack Brady Garcia , Cicero-North Syracuse senior defender Joseph Malecki and Watertown senior midfielder Nico Spaziani .

School: West Genesee
Class: Junior

What’s next for you? Lacrosse in college.
Who inspires you? My dad because he taught me everything I know.

Name: Nate Conley
School: Fayetteville-Manlius
Class: Sophomore

What’s next for you? Travel
Who inspires you? My brothers. They both went to college for lacrosse, so I want to make them proud.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Our practices. We always came to practice with a lot of energy thanks to the coaches and drills we did. Made it way more fun.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” It shows that practice makes perfection.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Rocky Balboa he would bring motivation to the team.
Name: Logan DeWaters
School: West Genesee

Position: Defense
What’s next for you? Senior year of playing hockey and lacrosse, and then I committed to Towson University to play lacrosse.
Who inspires you? I would say the person who has inspired me the most throughout my sports career would have to be my Dad. Growing up, I always wanted to be like him, but better in some ways, and I looked up to him as a player but also as a dad. Everything that he has done for me throughout my career is something else. And I wouldn’t be the player I am today without him.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memories from the season had to be the bus rides to all the away games and just spending quality time with my teammates.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “A team isn’t a bunch of kids out to win. A team is something that you belong to, something you feel, something you have to earn.” Gordon Bombay from “The Mighty Ducks.” This is my favorite quote because it shows the importance of coming together as a team to accomplish your goals.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? The Flash because he could clear the ball whenever we needed him to.

School: Baldwinsville
Class: Senior
Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Playing collegiate lacrosse and studying finance.
Who inspires you? My parents have inspired me the most in my lacrosse career because they have always pushed me to become the best I can be. They’ve always reminded me to never settle for less than what I am capable of.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory from this season is the friendly banter during practices between my teammates Eli Doherty and MJ Young.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “A bruise on the leg is a hell of a long way from the heart” - Herb Brooks
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Saturo Gojo himself - because he is the honored one.

What’s next for you? United States Naval Academy.
Who inspires you? My mom inspires me the most because of her compassion and kindness, competitiveness, and love for the game.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Winning the sectional championship this year was my favorite memory because my team played together as one and we made history with an undefeated season.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run.” -Forrest Gump. Our little run has turned into an undefeated season…doing the work and getting it done.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Rocky Balboa because he never gave up, no matter who he was fighting or any obstacles the world threw at him.

School: Baldwinsville
Class: Senior
Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Marquette University.
Who inspires you? Ryan Goldstein because he’s a super undersized attackman. But he still finds ways to manipulate the defense and make plays.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Every team dinner before all of our home games. Since our team is super energetic, the team dinners were very fun.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Pain heals, chicks dig scars, and glory lasts forever.” I picked this quote from the movie “The Replacements” because it represents how your mindset should be as an athlete.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? The Joker because he’s a villain that Batman can never get out of his hair. He’d also be relentless with his on-ball defense.

School: Cicero-North Syracuse
Class: Senior
Position: Defense
What’s next for you? Play lacrosse at Le Moyne College.
Who inspires you? Nolan Firth has inspired me the most in the sport because he took me under his wing in eighth grade and has been mentoring me and helping me through my high school career ever since.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory this season was dancing in the locker room with all the guys after a big win.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “The name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back.“ - ”Miracle."
This is my favorite quote because this quote from the movie “Miracle” shows the importance of team unity and putting the collective goal ahead of individual recognition. You don’t win championships with individuals. You win as a team, a family.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? I’d have Animal from the Muppets because he is wild and violent and I think he would be a good defenseman to play with.
Name: Nash Oudemool
School: West Genesee
Class: Junior
Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Getting ready to play in my senior season at West Genesee, then attending Lehigh.
Who inspires you? My father and my brother because they always try and push me to my best and help me with my game to make me the best possible player I could be.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Beating Jamesville-DeWitt in overtime, coming off the loss from last year, was important in bringing our team together and was a big stepping stone into where we are as a team today.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”- Tim Notke. This is my favorite because my dad has always told me that “If I didn’t like it, to work harder” when I’ve had setbacks, so I’ve always just worked really hard and relied on hard work over talent.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Michael Scott, because secretly I think he is an amazing athlete and his humor would be fun.

School: Cicero-North Syracuse
Class: Junior
Position: Goalie
What’s next for you? College and Heat Lacrosse.
Who inspires you? My mom is definitely my biggest inspiration when I’m out on the field. She’s never missed a single game and is always my biggest fan on and off the field. She always makes time to make sure I’m able to play the sport I love.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory from this season is playing with my team and spending time with my friends on and off the field. This team means the world to me and I cherish every moment with them on and off the field.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you’re not first, you’re last” -Ricky Bobby, “Talladega Nights.” This quote is one of my favorites because it’s simple and straightforward and if you’re not first, you’re not the winner.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? I would say Superman just because he can do everything on and off the field and he’s an amazing leader.

School: East Syracuse Minoa

Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Last season of club lacrosse with Sweetlax Upstate, then senior year at ESM, and then attending Cornell University to play lacrosse and further my academic career.
Who inspires you? My parents, my biggest supporters, for the time they spent taking me to practices, games and club lacrosse, and for always pushing me to give my all in everything I do to reach my full potential.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Beating F-M for the first time in at least 15 years and celebrating the win with our coaches and team.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you ain’t first, you’re last” because I like the movie and I like to play fast!
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Spider-Man, because he’s a great teammate and puts others before himself. Plus, he’d be unstoppable swinging around the field.
Name: Nico Spaziani
School: Watertown
Class: Senior
Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Division 1 lacrosse at Binghamton University.
Who inspires you? Greg Niewieroski. I’ve always looked up to him as a role model in the sport of lacrosse. He is a Watertown alum who set lacrosse records in high school and had an impressive college career at Syracuse University. Beyond his skill on the field, he’s super humble and has always led by example.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Beating ESM in the sectional semifinals. They are a formidable opponent and one our team always wants to beat.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “You can’t be common. The common man goes nowhere. You have to be uncommon,” -Herb Brooks from the movie “Miracle.”
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? The Flash from DC Comics because he could literally run circles around everyone on the field.
Name: Adrian Sweeney
School: Cicero-North Syracuse
Class: Sophomore
Position: Midfield
What’s next for you? Summer travel lacrosse and football season.
Who inspires you? My mom, because she always makes me stick with things even when I get down on myself and she brings me to every single event.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Scoring the game-tying goal in the 4th quarter and assisting my good friend Karsen Pritchard for the game winner in overtime against Baldwinsville.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you’re not first, you’re last” -Ricky Bobby, “Talladega Nights,” because second place means nothing.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Tony Montana from Scarface because he doesn’t go down without a fight.
Name: Jack Wichmann
School: Christian Brothers Academy
Class: Junior
Position: Attack
What’s next for you? This Summer, I am going to be playing travel lacrosse with Orange Crush and I will also be golfing this summer. Looking forward to senior year at CBA.
Who inspires you? My older brother Drew has inspired me the most because, as a lacrosse player playing attack, he was undersized, but he worked harder than everyone else on the field. He had a ton of success in lacrosse and also now in his career.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory from this season is our first game of the year against Westhill when we started down 5-0 in the first quarter and we were able to battle back in the second half to get our first win of the season and Coach Boltus’ first win as a head coach.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you’re not first, you’re last” -Ricky Bobby, “Talladega Nights.” This is my favorite quote because it shows a winner-takes-all mentality and this is motivating to me to try and be the best.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? I would want to have The Flash because with his untouchable speed, he would be able to dodge slides, run through double teams, and get to the net faster than anyone out on the field.

School: Christian Brothers Academy

Position: Defense
What’s next for you? Orange Crush club lacrosse and some golf over the summer. Looking forward to senior year at CBA.
Who inspires you? My mom has inspired me most in my sport because she is always pushing me to become better and work harder to hit my potential. She does the same with academics and my life in general. She can be tough but is my greatest fan.
What is your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory from this season is our sectional championship game versus Watertown. The team had good vibes the whole game, even after the first half when we were losing by a couple of goals. In the second half, we made defensive adjustments and held them to just one goal. Our offense was able to score some goals, putting us on top. The celebration after the game on the field and going to the student section afterwards was also fun. This was my first sectional championship.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “If you ain’t first, you’re last” - Ricky Bobby, “Talladega Nights.” This is my favorite quote because “Talladega Nights” is a funny movie and the quote shows the competitive nature of a person, and I am really competitive.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? I would want the Hulk as my teammate in my sport. He would be able to hit people because of how strong he is. He would be a force within the defense, which I think is always needed. Also, if he underperforms playing defense, he can play goalie and take up the whole net because he is so big.

What’s next for you? Division 3 lacrosse at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Who has inspired you the most in your sport and why? My dad, because he always pushes me to be better.
What is your favorite memory from this season? Scoring 9 goals in a game.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “The name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back” - “Miracle.” It shows that the team is more important than the individual.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be, and why? Rudy, because he always worked hard and pushed people to their best.
Coach of the year
Name: Eric Burns
School: West Genesee
Years coaching: Four years varsity at West Genesee, 24 years total.
Who inspires you to coach in your sport? The boys that we coach. Many of them understand the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment needed in order to be successful in a very competitive Section 3. They make it easy to coach and worthwhile to come to practice every day.
What is your favorite sports memory from this season? Heading back to Hobart College (alma mater) for the New York State Championship. It was a great experience for the staff and players to get the program back there.
If you could have any historical figure on your team, who would it be? Richard Marcinko, creator of SEAL Team Six. He had the toughness, grit and leadership qualities to be a SEAL, and the creativity & versatility to lead a brand new counter-terrorism unit. He’d be a great two-way middie.
